A Talk by Qamaruzzaman Amir

The Talk:

Education is a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future” is the mission statement of the United World Colleges, a network of international high schools. How can this be realized in a manner that allows for transformative learning experiences to occur? Transformative learning experiences that produce active, progressive, positive global citizens. Q will be sharing an activity that he facilitated from 2004 to 2015 during his time as physics/theory of knowledge educator with the United World College of Southeast Asia in Singapore. The activity, Initiative for Peace, has involved youths of communities in conflict in Kashmir, Sri Lanka, Timor Leste, and Mae Sot, Thailand.

The Speaker:

Qamaruzzaman Amir is currently a peace-building PhD candidate with the Institute of Religion, Culture and Peace of Payap University. He spent 2 transformative high school years in Pearson College-United World College in Canada. After national service in the military, he read physics at the National University of Singapore before receiving his teaching qualification. And from 2000 to 2015, shared his passion for physics, theory of knowledge, and peace-building as a high school educator.
